ABOUT THE COUNCIL

As a whole, we serve as the liaison between the graduate students and the administration of the FSU Math Department. We are a valuable resource for the department faculty to learn of pertinent issues for graduate students. The GSC also serves as a resource for current, incoming, and potential graduate students to increase the ease of transition into our graduate programs.

The Graduate Student Council (GSC) is made up of graduate students with very diverse backgrounds. The GSC contains students in their second year or above that come from all different places including, but not limited to, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nigeria, China, Korea, India, Iran, Vietnam and the US.

Callie Reid

CO-CHAIR

3rd Year Bio Math Ph.D. Candidate

Callie is working on nonlinear random walks on networks, studying how dynamics shape the perception of network structure. By analyzing how density-dependent diffusion changes stability and spectral properties, the aim is to better understand how nonlinear interactions affect diffusion on complex networks. Outside of academics, Callie enjoys coffee, spending time with friends and family, and exploring new places.

Mujtabi Ali

4th Year Pure Math Ph.D. Candidate

My research is in Topological Data Analysis (TDA), an area that uses ideas from topology to study the shape and structure of data. I am particularly interested in the geometry of multiparameter persistence modules. My work focuses on understanding the relationship between different notions of distance and stability on the space of multiparameter persistence modules and their special subclasses.

Kaylie Green

Treasurer

4th Year Bio Math Ph.D. Candidate

Kaylie's research investigates the dynamic relationship between energy metabolism and protein homeostasis (proteostasis) during energetic stress, with the hypothesis that failure in one system can trigger collapse in the other. She is developing a mathematical model that combines these networks and uses Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and stability analysis to identify conditions leading to resilience or cellular failure. This work provides a theoretical framework for understanding stress-induced cellular dysfunction. Outside of research, Kaylie enjoys traveling and coffee.

Rachel Veit-holt

I use mathematical modeling and computational simulations to study how biofilm structure, material properties, and chemical signaling influence pattern formation. Outside of math, I like to bake and play tennis.

James’ research focuses on modeling social norms using cooperative game theory. Outside of math, James enjoys swimming and playing tennis, pickleball, and chess.

Daniel's research interests include stochastic optimal control and numerical methods, with applications in Financial Mathematics, focusing on policy gradient methods using random time stepping as an alternative to classical Euler-Maruyama discretization.

Gustav's research uses mathematical models to understand the movement of molecular cargo and motors throughout the cell, with applications to neurodegenerative diseases

I am Reyajul Hasan Leon. I am currently pursuing a PhD in Mathematics, where my research focuses on mean field control and mean field games. I am deeply interested in analyzing how large populations of interacting agents make strategic decisions.
